Efrain Talamantes

Efrain Talamantes, MD, MBA, MSHPM

Efrain Talamantes, MD, MS, MSHPM, is Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) at AltaMed Health Services in Los Angeles. He is a former Fellow in the NIH-funded Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) program and a former Scholar in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Clinical Scholars Program in the Department of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is a bilingual (Spanish-English) researcher is interested in conducting research that focuses on kidney transplant disparities in aging minority populations. Dr. Talamantes received a Doctorate of Medicine from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, a Master of Science in Health Policy and Management from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and a Master of Business Administration from Emory University Goizueta School of Business, Atlanta, GA.




“The impact of age, race and ethnicity on kidney transplant mortality.” Dr. Talamantes’ RCMAR/CHIME- and UCLA CTSI-funded project seeks to determine post-transplant mortality by race/ethnicity for older recipients of kidney transplants, while exploring the impact of potentially modifiable factors on survival.
