Adriana Izquierdo, MD, MSHS

Adriana Izquierdo, MD, MS, MSHS, an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and a Staff Physician at the Greater Los Angeles VA, received a Doctorate of Medicine and a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, and a Master of Science in Health Services from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Izquierdo, a bilingual (Spanish-English) researcher, is interested in exploring older adults’ social relationship resources and psychological well-being, physical health, healthcare utilization, and in examining how psychosocial and sociocultural factors relate to older adults’ perceptions of successful aging.

2011-2012 Pilot Project, “Familism, social support, stress, and depressive symptoms among older Latinos in the United States: The Hispanic Community Health Study / Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL) Study.”Dr. Izquierdo’s RCMAR/CHIME- and UCLA CTSI-funded project sought to address Latino mental health disparities through an innovative evaluation of social network effects on mental health outcomes among older adult depressed Latinos with the purpose of identifying salient socio-cultural factors in mental health care delivery/service utilization and leveraging this cultural awareness to advance a nuanced understanding of mental health outcomes among depressed Latino older adults.
