ABC 7: UCLA’s Equity for Latinx/Hispanic Healthy Aging Lab pushes for more education about brain health

Watch how the ELHA lab is dedicated to preventing, early detection and management of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

The Celebration of Día de los Muertos across the nation serves not only as a tribute to the departed but also as an opportunity for the Equity for Latinx/Hispanic Healthy Aging (ELHA) Lab at UCLA to initiate conversations about brain health. Latinos are 1.5 times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than their white counterparts, but make up a small fraction of participants in the research. Founder of the ELHA Lab, Mirella Díaz-Santos (UCLA RCMAR CHIME ALUMNA 2019-20) is leading an effort to co-create and build partnerships with community-based organizations.
