Marie N. Fongwa, RN, MPH, MSN, PhD, an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, Azusa Pacific University, CA, received a Doctorate of Philosophy and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of California San Francisco and Master’s degree in Public Health from San Jose State University, CA. Dr. Fongwa’s research interests are in exploring quality of care perspectives for African Americans, Latinos, and Whites, linking quality with culture/patient background information and learning from patients that allows for providing them with health care that meets their needs and desires.

  • “Evaluating the psychometric equivalence of health care reports and ratings by older Whites and African Americans.” Dr. Fongwa’s RCMAR/CHIME-funded project evaluated the psychometric equivalence of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®) 2.0 data, specifically adult Commercial and Medicaid and Medicare (3.0) data, and examined item functioning for African Americans and Whites.
