Steve Wallace

Steve Wallace, PhD

Dr. Steven P. Wallace, PhD, is a professor at the UCLA School of Public Health, Vice-Chair of the Department of Community Health Sciences, and Associate Director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. He earned his doctorate in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He received a Fulbright Fellowship for research and lecturing in Chile in 2000 where he studied the impact of public policies on health equity among the elderly. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as American Journal of Public Health, PanAmerican Journal of Public Health, Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences, and Social Science and Medicine. He has also published over 20 book chapters and numerous policy briefs.

Dr. Wallace's research includes several studies that identify the gaps in health policies for underserved elders in the state, determine access to care barriers for Mexican immigrants in California and the U.S., and explore determinants of community capacity for public health advocacy. He is a past chair of the Gerontological Health Section of the American Public Health Association, and PI of several projects that provide community-based training on how to use data to advocate for improving access to care for underserved populations in California. He serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals and acts as a consultant to several foundations and federal agencies on strategic directions for aging funding.
